Advantages of using Python:
- Multi-platform and multi-purpose language which can be used to write code for Windows, macOS, Linux and Android devices.
- Free language with openly available libraries due to it’s opensource nature there is a huge ecosystem of modules and add-ons to further enhance Python.
- Huge development community all over the world constantly enhancing the core language and building new enhancements.
- Some built-in database functionality
- Can be used alongside COM or COBRA components due to it’s extensive control capabilities. This is because it calls directly from C, C++, or Java using Jython. Python can run on all modern platforms by sharing the same byte code.
- Provisions to extend to web servers and complex web applications via Django
- Ability to process XML and other markup languages.
- Has functionality to create pure command-line applications or GUI applications
Some background history
Guido van Rossum at Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI) in the Netherlands invented Python in the late 1980s. It was inspired by SETL, which could handle exceptions and communicate with the Amoeba operating system. Python 2.0 was released on October 16, 2000, with many significant new features. Python can be used to write scripts for web applications, such as mod wsgi for the Apache webserver.
Django, Pylons, Pyramid, TurboGears, web2py, Tornado, Flask, Bottle, and Zope are web frameworks that help developers design and maintain complex applications.
SageMath is a computer algebra system with a Python-programmable notebook interface. OpenCV bindings provide a comprehensive set of features for computer vision and image processing. Twisted is a programming framework.
