Why We Don’t Provide a Fixed Publisher List for Every Linkbuilding Campaign

Why-We-Dont-Provide-a-Fixed-Publisher-List-for-Every-Linkbuilding-Campaign

When businesses or agencies enquire about linkbuilding, one of the first questions we often get is:

“Can you send me your list of websites?”

It is a reasonable question. If you are investing in backlinks, you want to know where your links could potentially be placed.

However, at AGR Technology, we do not provide a fixed publisher list for every linkbuilding campaign.

That is not because we are trying to hide where we work or make the process less transparent. It is because we believe a good linkbuilding campaign should be based on relevance, suitability and the requirements of the campaign, rather than simply choosing websites from a static spreadsheet.

Linkbuilding is not a publisher marketplace

There is an important distinction between securing a backlink from a marketplace and using a managed linkbuilding service.

A marketplace typically gives you a list of websites and allows you to select placements based on factors such as domain metrics, price or category.

Our approach is different.

AGR Technology provides managed outreach and linkbuilding, where we identify suitable opportunities based on the campaign requirements and then handle the outreach and placement process.

This means you are not simply buying a spot from a pre-existing inventory of websites.

We are looking for opportunities that make sense for the particular campaign.

Why a fixed list can be misleading

A publisher list can look impressive at first glance.

It might contain hundreds or thousands of domains, along with metrics such as Domain Rating, Domain Authority, traffic estimates and other data points.

But having a large list does not necessarily mean those websites are suitable for your campaign.

For example, a website could have strong domain metrics but be completely unrelated to your industry or have it’s metrics inflated by spammy practices.

Another website might be highly relevant but have different editorial requirements, audience characteristics or commercial considerations.

A publisher that makes sense for one client may not make sense for another.

This is why we prefer to evaluate opportunities based on the actual campaign rather than treating a spreadsheet as the product.

Relevance matters

One of the biggest factors we consider when identifying linkbuilding opportunities is topical relevance.

A relevant backlink can make more sense than a link simply chosen because a website has a high third-party metric.

For example, if you operate a software company, a relevant technology, business or industry publication may be a more natural opportunity than an unrelated website with a higher Domain Rating.

The same applies across industries.

A local service business, SaaS company, eCommerce brand, local service provider and iGaming business can all require very different linkbuilding strategies.

The right opportunities depend on the client, target audience, industry, location and campaign objectives.

Metrics are useful, but they are not everything

We do use third-party metrics as part of the research process.

Metrics can help us assess and compare potential websites, particularly when looking at the overall strength and profile of a domain.

However, we don’t believe a single number should determine whether a website is suitable.

Domain Rating, Domain Authority and similar metrics are third-party indicators. They are useful reference points, but they are not a guarantee of the quality, relevance or value of a particular link.

We therefore look at the wider picture.

Depending on the campaign, this can include:

  • Topical relevance
  • Website quality
  • Audience and market
  • Content quality
  • Existing website profile
  • Geographic relevance
  • Traffic and what sources of traffic
  • Industry suitability
  • Editorial fit
  • Campaign requirements
  • Available placement opportunities

The goal is to build a backlink profile that makes sense for the business, rather than simply collecting links based on a metric.

Websites change over time

There is another practical reason we do not treat a publisher list as a permanent product.

Websites change.

Their editorial policies can change. Their content strategy can change. Their ownership can change. Their policies can change. A website that was suitable six months ago may not necessarily be the right opportunity for a particular campaign today.

New websites also become available.

Rather than repeatedly sending clients the same static list, a managed outreach approach allows us to assess opportunities as campaigns are being worked on.

This gives the process more flexibility.

We also don’t want to promise specific placements before outreach

Another important consideration is that outreach involves third parties.

Even when a website appears to be an excellent fit, there is no guarantee that the publisher will accept a particular campaign, topic or placement.

That is why we do not want to present a long list of websites as though every domain on it is automatically available for your campaign.

The actual opportunity needs to be assessed and, where appropriate, approached.

This is also why we avoid making unrealistic promises around guaranteed websites, guaranteed metrics or guaranteed placements unless a specific product explicitly defines those requirements.

What you are actually paying for

With managed linkbuilding, the value is not simply a spreadsheet of websites.

You are paying for the work involved in identifying opportunities, assessing suitability, conducting outreach and managing the campaign through to delivery and reporting.

That can save considerable time for businesses and agencies that do not want to spend hours researching websites, finding contacts, sending outreach and managing individual placement opportunities.

For agencies, this can also provide a way to outsource part or all of the linkbuilding fulfilment while maintaining the client relationship themselves.

A better approach for ongoing campaigns

We believe this approach works particularly well for businesses and agencies looking for ongoing linkbuilding rather than a single isolated placement.

Instead of asking:

“Which website from your list should I secure a link from?”

The better question is:

“What opportunities make sense for this campaign?”

That allows the strategy to evolve as the campaign develops.

It also means we can focus on the actual objectives rather than forcing every client into the same publisher inventory.

Transparency still matters

Not providing a fixed publisher list does not mean we believe clients should operate in the dark.

We want clients to understand what they are purchasing, how the process works and what they can reasonably expect.

Our approach is simply that the campaign comes first and the publisher comes second.

We assess opportunities against the requirements of the campaign rather than selling access to a static database.

For clients with highly specific requirements, we can also discuss those requirements before starting a campaign and determine whether our managed outreach model is suitable.

Linkbuilding should be about more than chasing metrics

There is nothing wrong with wanting strong websites, good metrics and quality backlinks.

Those things matter.

The problem comes when the metric becomes the entire strategy.

A backlink from a highly relevant and credible website can be more meaningful than simply chasing the highest available number on a third-party SEO tool.

At AGR Technology, our approach is to look at the broader picture and build campaigns around the client’s actual requirements.

That is why we don’t provide a fixed publisher list for every linkbuilding campaign.

We would rather focus on finding the right opportunities for the campaign than give you a spreadsheet and ask you to pick a website.
